Vacuum Pump Oil is engineered with very specific technical characteristics. Extremely low Vapor Pressure is the most critical parameter to prevent the oil from vaporizing and contaminating the vacuum chamber. Viscosity must be stable to ensure a consistent lubricating film on bearings and cylinders. High Oxidation and Thermal Stability is required to withstand degradation from heat generated during compression. A good Viscosity Index ensures consistent lubrication performance across temperature variations. Some oils also contain additives to enhance demulsibility (water separation), anti-rust, and anti-wear properties.
For maintenance, it is crucial to always follow the pump manufacturer's recommendations regarding oil specifications and grade. Perform regular oil changes according to schedule or based on oil condition (changes in color, viscosity, or contamination). Avoid mixing oils from different brands or base stocks without technical guidance. Store oil in sealed containers to prevent moisture absorption from the air. Regularly monitor oil condition; cloudy oil, a sour smell, or the presence of significant water/contaminants indicates an immediate need for replacement. Used oil must be disposed of in accordance with local waste regulations.
